PhD Openings in Sustainable Chemistry

German Students

German PhD students join the INDIGO PhD net in the first year of their PhD studies.
At a time that fits best the requirements of the individual research projects of the PhD student, a six-month project research stay at one of the Indian partners is scheduled. Thereafter, the students have the opportunity to transfer to Dr. Reddy's Laboratories in Hyderabad, India, for an industrial internship. To minimize travel expenses the six-month project research stay is, if possible, combined with the network research and short course meeting in India or the industrial internship.

All Indian and German students of the INDIGO network are expected to participate once in an intercultural training workshop (one weekend). The intercultural training will help both sides to understand the different cultural backgrounds better.

PhD students are enrolled as graduate students at their home institution; German students will be enrolled as graduate students at the Indian host Institutes during their part of the PhD work in India.

Eligibility

Open to all PhD students with a MS major in Chemistry or Biochemistry or Chemistry Master students with plans to enroll in a PhD program in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or Medicinal Chemistry at one of the German Partner Universities (University of Regensburg or Technische Universität München).

Applications of German students

Applications for the Indian-German Graduate School INDIGO are permanently invited.
Please fill in the following form and send it - together with your CV and a copy of your Master's or Diploma certificate - to the German Program Coordinator:

Indian Students

Indian students join the INDIGO PhD program after successful completion of their first year at the Indian partner institution, which consists of only coursework.
At a time that fits best the requirements of the individual research projects of the PhD student, a six-month project research stay at one of the German partners is scheduled. Thereafter, the students transfer to BASF AG in Ludwigshafen, Germany, for an eight week industrial internship. To minimize travel expenses the six-month project research stay is, if possible, combined with the network research and short course meeting in Germany or the industrial internship.

All Indian and German students of the INDIGO network are expected to participate once in an intercultural training workshop (one weekend). The intercultural training will help both sides to understand the different cultural backgrounds better.

PhD students are enrolled as graduate students at their home institution; Indian students will be enrolled as graduate students at the German host Universities during their part of the PhD work in Germany.

The necessary PhD regulations (Promotionsordnung) at the University of Regensburg are already in place to award Indian students, who have spent six months at the University of Regensburg, and submit a thesis covering research results from their work in Germany and India, a double PhD degree. Indian PhD students submit their thesis at the Indian and the German institutions; referees and examiners of both institutions participate in the evaluation of the thesis and the defence. An individual dual degree document (individualisiertes Doppelpromotionsabkommen) is agreed on at the beginning of the PhD work. The document defines the lengths of research work abroad and participation in coursework and networks activities before submission of the thesis.

Fellowships

Four Indian PhD students per year will participate as BASF-sponsored fellows in the activities of the INDIGO PhD-Net. An estimated number of 2 Indian PhD students per year will join the networks activities with support from other sources such as individual fellowships provided by DAAD, DFG, Indian companies (notably Dr. Reddy's Laboratories) and several foundations.
